Booksie rolled out writing badges that are awarded to writers that hit milestones on the site. The first round of badges are given as a writer attracts more reads to their writing. More badges are coming.

Update:

We just rolled out two new badges based on writing contests. They are:

A gold  badge for taking first place on any writing  contest on the site.

A silver badge for placing as a runner-up.

These contest badges appear on your profile and anywhere the winning work is listed on the site.

Writing Badges

Booksie recently rolled out a badge program to award writers at certain milestones. The badges are meant to be motivational and insprirational. Our first round of badges are awarded to writers based on the number of reads their work attracts. These are the badges and how they work:

Badges are awarded based on the combined number of reads of your portfolio. So, if one piece of writing has received 1,050 reads and another has received 546, the combined number of reads would be 1,596.

The badges are:

Bronze for 100 reads:

Silver for 1,000 reads:

Gold for 10,000 reads:

Platinum for 100,000 reads:

And diamond for 1,000,000 reads:

The badges are additive, meaning that you can have a combination of badges as you build to the next level. For instance, if you had 5,700 reads, you'd be awarded five silver badges, and seven bronze.

The badges appear on your portfolio page, below your pen name.

In the future, we'll be rolling out a variety of badges for different accomplishments on the site.

Have questions? Post them below.

The badges were a great way of encouraging writers in posting and trying to attract reads. From the forum some people seemed to be a bit confused by it at first but this article makes it all so clear!

lol you put that platinum badge was a million reads but I think you meant 100,000?

The badges are a good idea, because seeing a number is one thing but it's like having my personal trophy case. Which I like, and because I want to see that trophy case grow I'm more motivated for posting and being active. I think for platinum you meant 100,000 reads. To me this one of the better additions on the site, keep up the good work!

This was an awesome idea and I'm definitely liking it so far. It offers a lot of motivation and pride when you see yourself and your peers earning badges. I can't wait to see what other badge ideas you've got coming!

I would throw this out there: The badges are a nice reward but they should not be the goal. Writers who don't focus on writing and posting a good story for the sake of a badge are only hurting themselves.

In other words, personally, I'd rather have a hundred readers than a hundred diamond badges.

And to clarify, because I can't edit my comments, when I said "For the sake of the badge", I meant to say that you shouldn't sacrifice the good writing just so you can win a badge."
