Booksie launched a new feature today called Booksie Donate that allows writers on the site to receive donations from fans and readers.

Hi all,

We launched a new feature today called Booksie Donate that allows writers on the site to receive donations from fans and readers. Using Booksie Donate, a green Donate button will appear at the top of any writing you have posted to the site as well as on your profile. Clicking on the Donate button will take fans to PayPal, where they can make a donation that goes directly to you. You can set donation amounts or fans can donate as much as they want.

In order to use Booksie Donate, you must have a PayPal account and be a Premium member on Booksie.

If you have Booksie Premium and a PayPal account, it will take you between 5-10 minutes to set it up and activate your content to receive donations.

There are many ways you can use Booksie Donate to receive financial support for your writing. Start a book and offer to post only after a certain donation amount has been reached. Or post poems, short stories, or audiobooks based on donations. You can also place donation requests in already posted work. Experiment and see what works. Not everyone will donate, but if you attract a dedicated fanbase, donations will come.

To active Booksie Donate go to the Edit page of your profile. On that page will be instructions for how to activate the service.

I understand that a writer has to be a premium member, but does that mean a reader, wanting to donate, has to be a premium member also?

A reader doesn't have to be Premium or even a member of the site to donate.

Not cool needing to be a premium member. Certainly, y'all could make it open to all members and just take a commission from those who aren't premium.

I notice some feel it should not be limited to Premium members. The premium membership to this site is Real Bargain. I am surprised any author who has nay desire to grow their business would hesitate to pay the modest annual fee. It returned to us quickly in added sales and avid fans

Same thing applies should I wish to become a Premium member?

I believe PayPal converts the funds to whatever denomination your account is set to. So, if you sent pounds, it would convert to dollars and vice-versa.

I do agree with Elkeene, many of us are on a shoestring, & very likely those are the ones who would most need whatever help they could get from donations... A more fair way might be to either hold a percentage, or to keep the donations in an account until the Premium Membership amount is achieved, enabling the writer to attain it without incurring a cost, this would be beneficial to everyone concerned, & certainly could not possibly hurt any who have already paid for the membership!!!

Understood, but this was the easiest way to launch the program. Over time, we may evolve the model based on member input. Thanks for the feedback!

I did just this and there is no button that appeared on my account or my work, so bummed. It's the only reason I upgraded t I premium member and I tried to tell customer support but all they did was ask me if I followed these intrusions, and then never got back to me.
