Chapter 1 - Carer identity

The first chapter explores what unpaid mental health carers feel about their identity. When starting out as unpaid carers, it is if they have been thrown into a world of change and with that comes
a change of identity with little to no instruction on how to interact and connect with others or who we are caring for. The chapter puts carers as the experts in how they explore learning from each
other in identifying themselves and knowing who they really are. Carer statements explore what has been taken away from their lives and what has been added. A new identify always carries some
value, but can unpaid carers find this out in time?
