Peer Carer

You are not alone, Just like you
I once was a carer too
I understand the periods of screaming silence
When those demons come, all you ve got is defiance
I have been through it all, seen it all
I once was a carer too
Where I used to sit, you sit there too
On those inpatient wards or the GP surgery queue
They say we are needy and I guess thats true
I once was a carer too
As you look to me, I look at you
Its a difficult journey you have to go through
You will cry in anger and swallow your fears
but trust me, I once was a carer too
There will be times your glad you ve cared
The moments of joys, the times you have shared
They say mental illness is catching
I should know, I was a carer too
You have got to take time out
Take a break, shake the stresses out
....just for a moment
Let me tell you my story
I once was a carer too
It will be a hard road
but don't worry, we ll try share that load
You are not alone, Just like you
I once was a carer too
I understand the periods of screaming silence
When those demons come, all we can do build up self-reliance

I very much enjoyed the poem, I was right there with you at the end, the last line was pure perfection in this girl's mind!
I look forward to more-

This poem makes everyone that reads it, to feel just as he was feeling when he wrote it, the powerful effect would be to take seriously how caretakers got so much pressure on and sometimes people who paid them underestimate that it’s a hard job,

Hi Dixiana,
Tue, June 7th, 2022 4:05amThank you for your lovely comment. Caring for someone suffering mental ill health can be difficult, although there are many good things caring for a loved one.
