EXCERPT FROM CHAPTER FOUR -------------------------------------------

One of the monsters lumbered forward, and Eve went for her secondary sword. Just as she touched the hilt with her fingertips, another opponent grabbed her from behind. His hand enclosed the bulk of her body, her sword arm trapped in his grasp close to her side. He brought her close to his face, the stench of him solid and nauseating. She struggled, squirmed, and twisted to get loose from his hold. It was futile. He tightened his fist, which slowly started to cut her airway. She snarled and reluctantly opened her mouth, biting into the troll’s flesh. He howled in pain. His fist opened, and he threw Eve away as he overlooked his injured hand.

Eve gritted her teeth and kept a hold on her sword as her body flew through the air. The wind passed through her hair, sounding loud in her ears, and it felt as if she had been flying forever. It had only been seconds before her back impacted the tree’s trunk, which knocked the air out of her. She fell onto the grass with a groan but picked herself up as quickly as she could, dizzy from the pain and ill-prepared for another fight.
