The main protagonist is Nial, an alien from a race of planet movers and universe builders who have mastered the use of black and white holes through the Fifth Fundamental.

While scouting Earth, Nial, an Afsa from a long-lived but unsexed race, is struck by lightning during transit, causing a complete reset of their inner systems and resulting in an unintentional landing in Wyoming. There, Nial is discovered by Sully, an Afghanistan War vet and farrier who has lost a leg and struggles with PTSD and impotence.

As they navigate their differences, both Nial and Sully seek to understand one another and, in the process, learn more about themselves and their respective worlds.

As Nial learns human concepts, emotion, and the natural world around it, the theme of identity emerges as a tale of love about navigating the complexities of existence and the pull of unseen forces on us all.
