LEATHER FURY

A look at a popular celeb fashion trend. Leather. Nothing faux about it. Because back in 1993, black leather was ultra hot- in jackets and coats. Here we saw such celebs as Michael Douglas, Sylvester Stallone, Warren Beatty, Madonna and Cher. Who didn't love black leather?

PARIS in SPRINGTIME

A look now at the runway fashion seen in Paris. These were some of the more spectacular trends we seen thus far.

GIVENCHY

"Impeccable" was how VANIDADES described these fashions. "Perfectly tailored" could be another way to describe Givenchy's spring line. With a color palette which favored blue and white, Givenchy went a long way in creating fashion that oozed immaculate perfection. Many of the dresses were sleeveless and showcased the waist. There was no need for flounce and print because all you needed here was a perfect fit and buttons. Who knew simplicity could be so glamorous?

SCHERRER

Unfortunately we only got one example of the Scherrer line which in 1993 was under the direction of Eric Mortensen. Here we saw a two piece suit in navy. It had an oversized collar in white and an even larger single gold button which was all this outfit needed for utter class! Add white gloves and done!

VALENTINO

VALENTINO stuck to a more traditional color palette- white, black, navy. But his designs dripped with glamour and a little old fashioned je ne se quos. From a black and white diamond print wrap-style dress which had a tied belt and short sleeves, to a white crochet style jacket worn over a white sheer blouse which had a white tie adorned with pearl buttons. All of Valentino's designs were designed to fit well and to showcase the female body's nicer attributes ( like the waist). Most of this line's models wore gold jewelry which complemented the outfits quite well and some also wore large brim hats ( which weren't as large as the ones used in the YSL runway).

YSL

With YSL it was all about the colorful floral prints ( or just prints in general). From a trend that is being revisited now in 2025 ( green and white together) to more colorful motifs with a palette of blue + violet and of yellow + orange + white. But not only that, the shapes of these dresses were ultra flattering and femenine. From wrap style tops to simple scoop necks, these dresses had beautiful A-lines so that the wearer could walk without anything holding her back. YSL also had a lovely floral long sleeve blouse that had ruffled cuffs and a bow at neckline. Sounds like too much? Actually no.

Of course if you were looking for something extra exquisite, YSL had it too. From excellent draping at the skirt and full bell sleeves on their tops. Need even more? How about a giant bow at the back of a green and white dress? Or a small fabric train that trails behind you so that people can't help but look as you pass by. Finally, a couple of models walked the runway in these ginormous straw colored hats.

LATEST FILMS

- THE VANISHING

This film has intriguing themes. Imagine if someone you love suddenly disappeared. Would you search until the ends of the world? Could you fathom ever continuing your life never knowing what happened to them? This idea is more or less what The Vanishing is about. Kiefer Sutherland and Sandra Bullock play a happy couple. One day, quite suddenly, Bullock's character disappears never to be heard again. Sutherland's character "Jeff" manages to find love again three years later but has never forgotten the woman he loved. He also lives in torment, not knowing what happened to her. This film has suspense and that sense of eeriness that good suspense flicks have.

- SOMMERSBY

This film starred Richard Gere as Sommersby, a man who suddenly returns home after seven years of absence ( after the war). His wife ( played by Jodie Foster) thought he was dead. What is really happening tho? Is it indeed Sommersby? VANIDADES thought the film lacks life. In other words, it was a bit dull.

AL PACINO

An article on actor Al Pacino. This man had appeared in such great films as "The Godfather Trilogy", "Serpico", "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Scarface" just to name a few.

JULIA ROBERTS

And an article on Julia Roberts. In case you didn't know, she was born Julie Roberts and is the sister of Eric Roberts ( who was famous in the 1980s).

JANE SEYMOUR

A look at British actress Jane Seymour. Here she talked about her recent divorce and new tv show. "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman" anyone?
