Chapter 1 : A hug and a kiss.
“Where are you going mamma?” The girl asked her mother's fleeting back. Her mother stopped and responded to her daughter. “I'll be back baby, don't worry, I'm just going on a trip. You be a big girl and wait here for mamma, ok?” “Ok mamma, but what if I miss you?” The girl asked her mamma as she hugged her leg. “If you miss me, go sit under the tree we always stargaze under, ok baby?” her mother replied, kissing the girl's tawny hair on her head gently. “Ok mamma! I'll see you when you get back! I love you mamma!” The girl said as she let go of her mother's leg and waved to her. Her mother waved back as she walked away. “Love you too baby girl! Mamma loves you so, so much! You'll find me one-day, I'm so sorry, my precious baby.”
Her mother muttered the last sentence to herself as she left, tears running down her face almost faster than her guilt. Not a bag in her hand.
Chapter 2 : Tick tock, tick tock.
The girl patiently waited for her mother's return. She listened to the clock go tick tock, tick tock. It soon lulled her to sleep.
When the girl woke up, she eagerly dashed to her mother's room. She hadn't returned yet. “It's ok!” Thought the girl, “She's just coming back later!”
Tick tock, tick tock went the clock.
The hours began to roll by as the girl patiently waited for her mother's return.
Tick tock, tick tock.
The girl eventually got up and fixed herself some food, making sure there would be some for her mother when she got back
“When's mamma getting back Roby?” The girl asked her stuffed robin plush. “You're right Roby! She's probably out on a business trip!” the girl looks outside her window, “I'll wait for you mamma! That's what I'll do!”
Chapter 3 : I'll wait for you
And as the girl made food for herself, she always set some aside for her mother, putting it on her breakfast tray in her mother's bedroom. That night the girl sat outside under the tree that her and her mother always stargazed under. And that's what the girl did the next day, and the one after that, and the one after that, and next week, and the week after that, and the next month, and the month after that, and the next year. Soon her tawny hair grew into a lively caramel in colour.
Chapter 4 || Rotted tears
The food in her mother's room soon rotted into a plethora of despair. The girl began to cry herself to sleep every night, missing her mother's embrace and affection. She just wanted her mother to be with her even for a moment. “Mamma, you've been gone for a few years now… I miss hugging you…. I miss…everything…” the girl said to the stars up above, as she did everyday.
Chapter 5 || Note and noted
One day, the now older, lively caramel haired girl found a note under her mother's side table lamp. Addressed to ‘My precious baby girl', with a side note saying, ‘read under the tree’. The girl went outside to the tree and opened the note, she began to read it.
“To my precious baby girl, I'm so sorry I'm not back, but I never will be, if you are reading this, I'm gone. But I know you'll do great things, become a great person, and you'll always be my precious baby girl. I love you so much that I can't write what has happened to me, but, if you really have to see me, look up. -Mamma xx”
“MAMMA!” The girl began to sob and cry out as she looked up and saw her mother's decaying, lifeless corpse hanging above her. For years, her mother was hanging right there above her. For years, she had watched the food she'd left for her mother decay just like her mother. In a matter of minutes, the girl was at last alongside her mother, side by side, hand in hand, note in noose, her tawny hair gone and replaced with a dead caramel.
