My Scottish friend and I took on a very dangerous task.

I finished my training in the army, and I can tell you that it was tough. Nothing to do with paratroopers or infantry, that was even tougher. Communications was what I was doing. I heard about that guy who dropped all his bombs on my country. A great pleasure it would be to tell him what I think about his rampage.

The task to get near him is not going to be easy, but I am going to give it a try. My girlfriend, at first, didn't like the idea of me joining the forces. Only one thing she said is going to happen, that I would get killed. When she heard the reason I was doing it, she gave me extra love and said that I was very brave.

''I don't want you,'' she looked at me seriously, ''when you get there, and you see Eva, to fall in love with her. Since she is a very pretty thing.''

I said, ''Real brave soldiers do not get tempted in that way. They are too serious and want to complete the task.'''

''I have read quite a lot of brave soldiers. Sometimes you think that the stories were made up.''

''Those were special gifted soldiers.'''

''Who are you taking as your companion?'' She asked.

''There's a young Scottish soldier. Very tough, honest and trustworthy. I'll have a word with him, to see if he's interested.''

She said, ''I think he'll be interested. This is a dangerous advenyure of a lifetime.''

Years before I grew up and joined the army, my parents had been living in Germany. I learned the language fluently, and the manners of the German people.

Later aman from Austria ccame and took power in Germany. In July 1940 he sent his planes over to damage our country, but our fighters stood up to them. Our country was still safe, he could not take it away from us. That is one of the reasons why I am now going on this dangerous mission. I know my girlfriend thinks that it is foolish. She cannot see how two of us can defeat the enemy.

William the Scottish ex-soldier, my friend, met up and we started thrashing out how to tackle the daring act. 'Ít's going to be a tough climb,'' William had said to me, ''but we can do it.''

''We shall do it, in the evening. That would be a better time.'' I told him.

''The hard part omes,''William said, ''when we get to the top and get over the surrounding wall. Just below the residence, is the guardroom. And below that is a compound with thousands of soldiers. Then the body guards, it's definitely not going to be easy.''

''We're forgetting one thing,''I told him. ''The dogs.''

William said, ''Leave that to me. I am very good with dogs. They'll be no problem!'''''This is wartime,''I said to him, 'ánd you have to be careful with dogs.''

An arrangement was made between us that we shall walk through the woods, and get to the base of the mountain. Then we'll have a rest and begin the climb. The only thing we had on us was the climbing equipment, a small backpack, and two pouches, one on each side of the waist.

At around 5 pm when it started getting dark, we began the climb. I wish I had never suggested such a thing because the climb was very hard, and there were many times when I slipped, and almost went crashing down.

Eventually, after a hard struggle, we reached the top, and got over the fencing wall without anyone seeing us. Quickly, we got to the side of the building, avoiding some sunbathing chairs that were there, and slid along until we came to a lighted area. Turning a bit sideways, I peeped through the glass to see a man red fireplace. On the left of the fireplace, I saw a man sleeping in a soft chair. To the right, was a dark blonde woman just looking at the man. I just couldn't believe what I was seeing. Was that the man who was causing so much trouble in the world?

William, who was on my right side, whispered, ''what do you see?''

''The Feurher!''I told him softly. I felt as if he was trembling beside me.
