The resistance moved quickly after Selene’s decision to strike first. Plans were drawn up, resources were allocated, and teams were mobilized. The air in Sanctum was thick with anticipation, a strange mix of hope and dread. Everyone knew the stakes. This wasn’t just another mission—it was a turning point. If they succeeded, they could deal a crippling blow to the Consortium. If they failed, it would mean the end of everything they had fought for.
Selene stood at the edge of the war room, her eyes fixed on the holomap that displayed their strategy. The plan was risky, but it was their best shot. They would target a key Consortium facility hidden deep within the mountains—a research hub that housed the remnants of Project Eclipse. If they could destroy it, they could disrupt the Consortium’s operations and buy themselves time to regroup.
“The facility is heavily guarded,” Livia said, her voice cutting through the silence. She pointed to the map, highlighting the security measures. “Automated turrets, patrol drones, and a battalion of elite soldiers. Getting in won’t be easy.”
“We’ll need a distraction,” Kieran said, his arms crossed as he studied the map. “Something big enough to draw their attention away from the main entrance.”
Elara stepped forward, her expression calm but determined. “I can lead a team to create a diversion,” she said. “We’ll hit their eastern perimeter hard and fast. It should give you enough time to infiltrate the facility.”
Selene nodded, her mind racing through the details. “Daniel and I will lead the infiltration team,” she said. “We’ll need to move quickly once we’re inside. Livia, you’ll stay here and coordinate communications. If anything goes wrong, we’ll need you to guide us out.”
The room fell silent as the weight of the plan settled over them. It was a dangerous mission, and they all knew it. But there was no other choice. The Consortium was closing in, and if they didn’t act now, they would lose their chance.
As the team dispersed to prepare, Selene found herself alone in the war room. She stared at the map, her thoughts swirling. The truth about Project Eclipse still haunted her, a constant reminder of what she was—and what she could become. She had always believed her abilities were a gift, but now she wasn’t so sure. What if the Consortium had designed her to be something else? Something dangerous?
A soft knock at the door pulled her from her thoughts. Daniel stepped inside, his expression unreadable. “You should get some rest,” he said. “We’ve got a long day ahead of us.”
Selene shook her head. “I can’t sleep,” she admitted. “Not with everything that’s at stake.”
Daniel hesitated for a moment before speaking. “You’re not alone in this, Selene,” he said. “We’re all in this together. No matter what happens, we’ll face it as a team.”
His words were meant to comfort her, but they only deepened the ache in her chest. She wanted to believe him, but the fear of what she might become—what the Consortium had made her—was a shadow she couldn’t escape.
