I wrote this in high school while falling in love with my closest friend, who was going through a difficult time, causing us to drift apart.

60 seconds left in the day...
60 seconds away from another...

My heart beats with the rhythm of the clock...
Louder and louder, it pounds in my chest as the second hand sweeps past midnight...

It is now the birth of a new day...
Maybe this day will be the day...
The day I finally get to see you smile...
The day you look at me the way I look at you...
This day brings new hope that I will see you soon...

It's been so long, my memory fades...
My memories lie to me...
They paint your face in shifting shades,
But I can never be sure if it’s really you.
Only in my dreams do I see you and me...
Together forever, till the end of time...
After that, our bodies will no longer exist...
But our love—or at least my love—
Will drift like stardust through the endless cosmos,
Carrying what could have been.

Until then, I will watch as midnight whispers farewell to the past day...
And births a new day...
A day with hope...
A day that, maybe, brings you back to me.
