Woof Woof
I walk my dog, praying she’ll give up.
She doesn’t.
She found it among rubbish
Her trophy.
A can of tuna.
I tried to yank it
from her, but
she just clenched her teeth harder.
I tried to tempt her with treats
(my plan
to snatch it when she let go),
but she clamped onto it.
I said her name soothingly
then grabbed it.
She wagged her tail,
refused to let go
And so, we walk
past the gaze and gape
of neighbours,
through spotless streets.
