the fox and the flea

we live in a world 

where money is power

and power is status

and you need to have that!

or else you’re seen as another rat

running through the sewers

picking up the crumbs

of the prestigious fox

with his slick tricks

and his flick of the wrist

that he uses to abuse you

all so he can stomp on your back and make you pay

because you little rats are nothing but prey

all to be contorted into the manipulative fray

with all the other pests

it is truly put to the test

when you battle and 

scramble for the easiest and the best

and they say

you are the essence

to keep this forest

alive

to keep the trees standing tall

all so they can chop down those trees

and make you fall

on your back as they stomp on your throat

and you choke

because this world

is made of money

where money is power

and you need to have that

or else you’re seen as a lifeless, hopeless vat

of another wasted education

another useless speculation

where they all spat

on the heads who

keep the forest alive

and keep the trees standing tall

all so they can start another brawl

between the creatures who are crawling

and searching for their seat

as they eat and feast on scraps

the fox has left behind

because acording to them

these creatures are blind

they cannot find what is right

they are not allowed to fight

they are impaired in their sight

as they take their flight

back down to the bottom

where lies the dread

and the dead

and the ones who are no longer fed

because according to them

they drag the rest down

they make the world frown

with their uselessness

and tracking scraps from the street

because these creatures do nothing but 

eat and beat

and cheat 

and flee their responsibilities

and need to take the backseat

because according to the fox

this world is made for the hard who work

when in reality, the creatures,

their struggles are not seen

they are left to be looking like

the flea sucking on the blood of the fox

when the fox has been the flea 

all along.
