He sings a murderous melody

when he breaks in to commit a felony.

His mellifluous tones when they sleep alone,

soothe like a psychopathic symphony.

He hums a violent dark ditty,

his eyes and his heart are without pity.

A victim with no choice but to die by his voice,

the scene left behind is not pretty.

He drones a suspenseful strain,

in rhythm with his victims’ pain,

casually taking life by the blade of his knife,

from killing he cannot refrain.

He croons such a macabre lullaby,

to music his victims will die,

what they all hear will bring blood and tears,

a joy for him that money cannot buy.

Surrounded he sings his last verse,

the chorus could not be any worse,

when he walks through the door, he will sing no more,

but for hell he had time to rehearse.

This reminds me of Edgar Alan Poe, but also the show "Dexter". It has a great melody to it, like the methodic killings of a serial murderer. Great work!

You definitely got the gist of what I was going for! Poe is and always has been a great inspiration to me! I need to resume watching Dexter. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

You do a really good job with the rhyme in this piece. I would really struggle to achieve a meaningful rhyme scheme, which you manage to do AABA - whilst incorporating the double rhymes on the third lines of each stanza. Really nice work. This is really dark subject matter, but the way you use the rhyme, for me, helps to create this vibe where it almost sounds like one of those cautionary nursery rhymes. It sounds jolly and bouncy, but in reality, it is dark as fuck. Well done.
