Barry Jones has been announced as the Silver Medal award winner in the booksie.com Short Story Competition “Dawn of A.I”. The award has been given for his science fiction short story BREATHE. Breathe is a fast-paced rollercoaster of a story which pulls you in from the very first sentence, and surprisingly is Barry’s first attempt at writing Science Fiction.

Breathe introduces us to Es-Ta, the latest thing in computer technology, and a new addition to Dale Parker’s ships systems. Dale Parker was never any good with women, but Es-Ta is different, they said he wouldn't regret it but installing an A.I system may well have cost him everything...

On receiving notification of the award Barry said: “It’s such an honour to have won the Silver Award. I’m a huge fan of the short story, as both a reader and as a writer. I love the intensity of it, it’s not easy to get across an idea in a short format and it takes a lot of hard work, but when you get it right the result is wonderful, and I love the buzz of finishing one.”

 Barry, who is now working on more short stories and a series of novels, said: “It means a lot to win this prize. It’s really nice to know that my work resonates with people. It’s always hard to know whether your work has connected with readers – which is why booksie.com is so important. So much of writing is working alone, and booksie.com connects people through the love of writing and storytelling – so it’s especially meaningful for me to know that my work is appreciated by them.”
