Tears clouded his vision, clouded his reason. He couldn’t believe what he saw; his wife, the love of his life, in the arms of another man! Once inside his car, parked behind the motel, he let himself grieve, allowing the pain and sorrow to engulf him.
He had never suspected, never even thought about the possibility of such treason, such betrayal, especially coming from her. That morning they had made love and discussed the plans for their upcoming 10th anniversary.
Remembering, he felt his grief turn into rage,. His lips tightened, his nostrils flared, his fists clenched… No! he thought . He must control himself, now was not the time, here ,was not the place. Taking deep slow breaths he unclenched his fists, grabbed a hold of the steering wheel and drove off.
He didn’t feel like going home just yet, so he decided to go to the nearest bar.
In the bar he asked for a scotch,- hold the ice -and drank it in one swallow, letting the liquid burn his throat. The evening turned into night and after more than a couple of drinks he decided to go home. Home ,he thought miserably, trying to steady himself.
When he finally arrived at his house, he realized no one was there. He fumbled with the keys, trying unsuccessfully to slip it into the key hole. After several thwarted attempts he managed to get inside. He felt awful, his head throbbed and the walls seemed to move around him in fast motion. “ “ Well . You had yourself, one hell of a rendezvous with Mr. Daniels, didn’t you Paul?” He said to himself, chuckling softly.
Once inside he sat down on one of the love seats, waiting for his wife. He decided to park the car in the garage and leave the lights off, so she wouldn’t know he was here. He closed his eyes and felt a wave of nausea hit him like a ton of bricks. Suddenly, he heard a car door close. His eyes flew open and narrowed. The bitch is here, he thought, and she would get what she deserved.
Jade Owens, closed the door of her Toyota Camry, behind her. She looked around, not seeing Paul’s car anywhere,. He’s not here yet, she thought. Seeing that the lights in the house were off, she justified her theory. She breathed easily now, relieved that she wouldn’t have any explaining to do. She just came back from meeting her secret lover, Daniel Adams. Of course, Paul didn’t know and would never find out, she vowed silently. She felt so good! She loved being in Daniel’s arms! Paul, wasn’t a bad husband, but he was so boring, so predictable. Jade needed adventure, fun, romance. With Paul ,everything was so methodical, so mechanical, he didn’t own a spontaneous bone in his body. Daniel, on the other hand ,was so much fun, exciting, creative, daring, mysterious.
Shifting her thoughts to what she would do before Paul arrived, she decided a warm relaxing bath was perfect. She opened the door, not bothering to turn on the lights, when she noticed someone sitting in the living room. Jade yelped in surprise, her heart hammering in her chest. “ Who’s there? ‘ She squealed in a tiny frightened voice., at the same time ,noticing a familiar figure. “ Paul? Is that you?” she asked turning on the lights.
Indeed it was Paul and he looked like hell. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair disheveled and he smelled like a distillery. He didn’t say a word, just sat there a strange expression on his face. “ Paul Owens, have you been drinking?!” she was outraged, he never got drunk like that. Those spoken words acted like a trigger, Paul stood up to his full 6’2 and bellowed in an almost unnatural voice “ What the fuck do you care if I’ve been drinking ,you filthy whore!” Spittle flew from his mouth.
Jade cowered into a corner, a frightened and hurt expression in her eyes. “ P-P-Paul-” She began . Paul cut her off “ Paul, nothing! You listen to me, you bitch! You loathsome, lying bitch! “ He screamed, his face darkening with rage. “ Who is he? Who is the man I saw you with today?! And don’t you lie to me, woman! I saw you at the motel with him!! “ Jade was stunned into silence, he knew? Oh my dear God, this is not what she had planned.
“ How could you do this to me? After everything I’ve done for you, all the love I’ve given you, all the attention and care.” Paul was shaking visibly, his words starting to slur. “ You ungrateful bitch! What about all the things we would do? What about our anniversary trip to Hawaii? “ They had planned a trip there on a cruise, they had the tickets, and were supposed to leave in two weeks.
At least that’s what Paul believed, the truth was that Jade had planned on leaving with Daniel , leaving Paul forever. Now she didn’t know what was going to happen.
“ I am so sorry, Paul. I was going to tell you , before the trip to Hawaii.” She said not looking at him. Understanding dawned on him. “ You weren’t going on the cruise with me were you?” he asked, the pain threatening to break his sanity. “ Paul, I- “ “ You what?! You were going to leave with him, weren’t you?!” Paul interrupted . Jade nodded silently, tears sliding down her cheeks.
.Paul lost it. What little sanity he hung unto leaving him forever. He advanced on Jade and kicked her in the face. Jade, gasped ,falling over the chair where she sat. Blood gushed out of her nose, where his foot had connected . Before, Jade could get up, Paul was upon her once again. He beat her with his fists, unleashing all of his fury. Jade screamed but no one seemed to hear or care for that matter.
.Jade terrified and bleeding profusely , ran into the kitchen, she was searching for a knife, or any sharp object she could use to defend herself. To her horror, he was faster. Grabbing a large butcher knife he turned towards her grinning maliciously. His eyes had become completely black, his pupils were dilated. He was evil incarnate. Laughing maniacally now, he approached her.
Jade, could only look in horror as he thrust his knife into her stomach. He stabbed her repeatedly, and only stopped when her eyes rolled back in her head and her body stopped jerking spasmodically.
“ Serves you right, bitch. See you in hell” and with that, Paul proceeded to clean up his mess. Justice had been made, and for him, justice was best served cold….

It's nice to see someone writing about a wife who cheated on a husband instead of the other way around. Women are just as likely to cheat on men. I liked how the tension and suspense and dark drama drew stronger as the story went. Very excellent work, and for some, justice does not involve a court room
