Comedy is one of the toughest genres to write. Humor is often an elusive mix of storytelling, timing, description, and character development, a mix that presents the unexpected in an expected way. It’s by far, the most subjective. What’s funny to one may not be funny to another. But to make someone laugh with only the tools of black words on a white page is also one of the biggest rewards.

Booksie is looking to find the freshest new voice in comedy. Get your humor stories out and let’s see which one tickles our funnybone. The story can be about anything as long as it makes us laugh. Submit something you have already written or write something new. Submit as many entries as you like. Entries should be no more than 3,000 words.

Judging

About Andy Wasif

Comedian Andy Wasif

After graduating from Syracuse University, Andy spent several years touring the country as a stand-up comedian before moving to Los Angeles where he trained at famed Improv theaters Upright Citizens Brigade and Improv Olympic.

During his time on the West Coast, he wrote humor commentaries and celebrity features for Yahoo! Sports on his blog "Wasif's World," and has penned countless television and film scripts including Adult Puberty, a web series parody of those 1960s educational videos on growing older. His latest screenplay The 70-Year Itch is currently in development.

His book portfolio includes: "Hollywood Primer," a deeply observant and fun survival guide to life in Los Angeles and the entertainment industry; "Will Beg for Dignity," a collection of humorous personal essays; "Don't Talk Sports at the Dinner Table," a compilation of his most absurd, profound, and hilarious sports blog posts, "Adult Puberty," a middle-aged version of those books designed to help adolescents understand what's happening to their bodies and companion piece to the web series; and the Boston Globe bestseller “Red Sox Fans are From Mars, Yankees Fans are From Uranus.” He works as a script consultant (www.thepunchupguy.com) and his body of work can be found on his homepage (www.wasifsworld.com).

If you’re wondering what he finds funny, he can’t tell ahead of time, so just think funny and you can’t go wrong.
