When my Dad was a Soldier
Essay / Memoir
My Dad died last August. He was a World War II veteran. He shared some things about being in a war, but much he had not. This originally appeared in Daily Kos. Read More

Apud Sappho

I've just uploaded a draft of the opening of my latest work. Looking forward to any comments.

December
The latest installment of my latest work is up. Still learning about the characters, their histories, how they interact. More to come.
January
And a fourth installment of my novel is here. I seem to be doing well offering a bit more every month.
And this month I had more than 1,000 cumulative reads. Yay! My thanks to everyone for their interest in my writing.
February
Another month, another installment. Enjoy!
March
I would have released this installment earlier, but I've been busy watching the events unfold in Ukraine.
April
My update is a little late, but to make up for that there's more to read.
June
Time got away from me last month. I had hoped to complete the next chapter before I published it here, but better to share what I have written than to delay indefinitely the next installment in the life of our young heroine.
August
I've been busy with other matters, but have not forgotten about Madeleine, or this story. In fact, the other day I noticed she was prowling about her aunt's house, looking for a garden hose & a bucket. I asked her what she was doing. "Things get dusty this late in Summer, & I'm thinking of washing my aunt's car." Her fastidiousness surprised me, so I asked her if she had an ulterior motive to this chore. "Like what?" I suggested she was attempting to encourage her aunt to let her stay with her after Summer ends.
She didn't like that question, & refused to talk further with me. Last I saw of her, Madeleine was still thinking of washing her aunt's car -- only not so overtly.
October
I'm still at work on Madeleine's story, sort of. As I explain to Aunt Patsy at https://www.booksie.com/683277-a-conversation-with-aunt-patsy (Can't get the hyperlinking to work here.)
