Announcing the Winners

The judges had a lot of fun with this contest. We're pleased to announce the winners:

First Place Winner:

Sex in the Garden by Elizabeth Marshall

"The story is well-written and engaging, with vivid descriptions of the tortoise's mating ritual. The mother's commentary adds a humorous touch and the story's ending is satisfying."

Runners-Up:

Lessons Learned by Emily Durant

"The story is relatable and captures the realities of pet ownership. The characters are well-developed, and the narrative is paced well. The story's ending is open-ended, but it still feels complete."

Ice Blue Eyes by Raven Akuma

The story builds tension through the protagonist's interaction with the dog, and the dialogue is crisp and to the point.

Congratulations to all of the winners! We'll be in touch shortly with your prize information.

* * *

Dogs, cats, parrots, gerbils, hamsters, iguanas, etc. The list of pets could go on and on. The challenge of this contest is to write a true story about a pet in 300 words or fewer. The story can be funny, silly, scary, sad, or any other adjective as long as it involves a pet. And to make it extra interesting, include a picture of the pet in the story, if you can.

Remember, the challenge of flash fiction is to create a thought-provoking story within the tight word constraints of the writing form. Good luck and have fun!

The story can be any genre as long as it is based on the picture.
